| ASEAN Games Melbourne
The 1st of October marked the start of the first ever ASEAN Games Melbourne initiated by MSports which was held over two days! Even though the weather was dark and gloomy, it did not dampen anyone’s spirits as over 1000 spectators turned up to cheer on their countries!
http://www.aseanstudentgames.com/. Our very own Malaysians shined in the Basketball and Badminton winning medals in different categories. Not to mention Malaysia also dominated the Futsal court by taking home the Gold, Silver and Bronze titles! We also took home the Most Valuable Player award! Congratulations to Benjamin Sim for being the MVP for Basketball and Shhobaa Palan for being the MVP for Netball! To make things even better, both MVPs took home complimentary AirAsia return tickets! “Proud of being able to pioneer the first ever ASEAN event and I hope that the ASEAN Games Melbourne provides a cross nationality and cross cultural platform to unite South East Asians through a competitive sporting event in Melbourne and that this creates a sense of community for international students studying abroad. It was both a challenge and a pleasure to work with people from all SEA countries!” - Raymond Shang, Project Director of ASEAN Games Melbourne 2011 With that, the ASEAN Games Melbourne is set to become an annual convention that all South East Asian students will look forward to each year. We want to thank everyone for their contributions to the success of this event. Most importantly thank you ASEAN Games Melbourne 2011 organising team and sponsors for making this event a huge success! We’ll be back next year! We've been featured in the MELD Magazine!
