ASEAN AGENDA - Towards an ASEAN Student Community in Australia
The ASEAN Agenda aims to promote greater ties among students from the 10 ASEAN countries to create a strong ASEAN student community in Victoria and eventually Australia. This is achieved via strategic partnership with other ASEAN-root student peak representative bodies. The Agenda is led by the Chairperson Office, with Vincent Tjendra as the ASEAN Relations Director.
Each arm of MASCA Victoria will spearhead its initiative(s) as below:
ASEAN Student Leaders Conference (ASEAN Relations Director)
- A conference for student leaders from various university-based student organisations with ASEAN roots.
- An avenue to form partnerships and collabrations that are in line with our aim in creating an ASEAN Student community.
- MASCA Victoria intends to provide strategic assistance to other student communities that have yet to have an integrated peak representative body.
- A lecture series by well-known speakers on ASEAN-centric topics e.g. the implementation of a multilateral tax system in ASEAN.
ASEAN Games Melbourne (MSports)
- 10 ASEAN countries competes for the coveted title of Overall Champion.
- Arguably the biggest student-run sporting project in Victoria.
- Offers unique opportunity for students from various nationalities to work together in event organising.
ASEAN Cultural Night (MCulture)
- A dinner which showcases cultural performance from the 10 ASEAN countries, allowing the exchange of cultural experiences and passion.
Fiesta Malaysia (MCulture)
- Incorporates cultural and cuisines aspects from the 10 ASEAN countries by showcasing cultural stage performances and serving traditional cuisines (by participating restaurants).
MCareers Information and Career Sessions (MCareers)
- Hosts Information and Career Sessions by leading companies from the South East Asia region.
- MCareers intends to be a one-stop-center for career opportunities in key ASEAN countries especially Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
MASCA Grants:
Seed funding will be provided for projects run by student organizations or groups that have aligned goals as the ASEAN Agenda, i.e. enabling participation of students from the ASEAN countries. This is in line with our role as the Enabler of Ideas.
With the rise of China and India, the formation of a more effective and unified ASEAN region (akin to the European Union) is critical and having strong leaders is the key element. We foresee that the outstanding individuals nurtured through the ASEAN Agenda will form a key strategic network and bring the voice of ASEAN to a higher level in the world.
